Email consent and reply handoff
Build a follow-up sequence only for people who chose to receive it.
The situation
An email platform can segment and send, but the business must know why each address is on the list and what was promised. Replies should have an owner, not vanish into a campaign dashboard.
Work through it
- Record signup source, permission wording and date for the segment you will contact. Separate uncertain imports until reviewed.
- Write one useful message tied to the subscriber's reason for joining, with a clear sender identity and unsubscribe route.
- Assign responsibility for replies, suppression and complaints. Review whether the sequence produces useful questions rather than only opens or clicks.
What to measure
- Contacts with documented signup source
- Relevant replies and next steps
- Unsubscribes and complaints
Boundaries
- Do not merge cold prospecting data into an opted-in newsletter list.
- Rules differ by location and channel; obtain qualified advice for your situation if needed.
Questions for your own workflow
- What did the subscriber expect?
- Who answers a reply?
- When should the sequence stop?
