Opt-in to useful email follow-up
Build an email path around documented permission, the subscriber's reason for joining and a useful next action.
The situation
Email follow-up can help a person continue at their own pace, but only if the message reflects what they signed up for. Begin with permission records and a single audience segment instead of sending a generic sequence to every address.
Work through it
- Record how and when each subscriber joined, what they were told and how they can unsubscribe. Keep uncertain records out of the pilot until reviewed.
- Choose one segment and write a short sequence answering a real next question. Make the sender, purpose and frequency clear in the first message.
- Assign someone to read replies and monitor unsubscribes or complaints. Adjust the content or stop the sequence if people do not recognize why they are receiving it.
What to measure
- Subscribers with a documented source and scope
- Relevant replies or next steps from the segment
- Unsubscribes and complaints
Boundaries
- A cold prospect list is not an opted-in email audience.
- A tool does not supply legal permission or meaningful content; the team must establish both.
Questions for your own workflow
- What did this person specifically agree to receive?
- What question will the first message answer?
- Who handles replies and suppression?
